Before & After: Deep Buttoned Velvet Sofa

Here are the results from our latest 'before and after' endeavor - this tired, terracotta sofa has been transformed into an aqua delight, upholstered in Mokum 'Vintage' colour peacock. Absolutely stunning! We hope the client likes it too...!

Deep Buttons and Velvet

One of our clients is having their recently inherited deep buttoned sofa re-upholstered in a delicious aqua velvet - we are dying to see the result (and share it with you!) but in the meantime we are drooling over two of the latest sofa releases from one of our suppliers, Kovacs.

These Christchurch made pieces are of the highest quality, and the classic style of the 'Grace' and 'Maverick' sofas will last you many, many years.

Hot off the workroom floor this week is a great sofa re-upholstery job for a client of ours - they had the arms re-shaped at the same time to give it a more contemporary look. Brilliant!

The Block NZ 2013 - Week 4

It was the living room and entry hall challenge on The Block this week - what did you guys think? Love them? Hate them? A little underwhelming perhaps? Some snippets of goodness? All of the above!?

I don't think there was one team that totally hit it out of the park this week - if I could pick my favourite elements from across the board they would be;

The lights and faux pressed paneling from Alice and Caleb's entry topped off with their signature black dado rail.

The gorgeous wee elephant hooks from Pete and Andy's foyer and their cosy looking sofa.

The perfectly sized rug, relaxed feel and sun soaked window seat in Alisa and Cohen's living area.

The overall sense of creativity and colour from Loz and Tom - I think the least contrived, least show-home looking living area on the block this week.

The buttoned sofa - it's hot hot hot right now, and here are just a handful of our favourite styles that we can source for you, just ask!

Retro Sofa on Sale

We need to make some space in our showroom for new goodies so it's time to move this retro sofa!

The body of this great 3 seater is upholstered in gorgeous grey velvet, and the cushions in an orange and grey  hounds-tooth coordinate. It's comfy, it's fun, it's perfect for sprawling out on, and it needs a new home now!

Retro Sofa Upholstery

We love it when clients and friends share their own handiwork with us... here is a gorgeous retro sofa belonging to our Charles Parsons rep, Lynley, which she cleverly re-upholstered all by herself through an upholstery course! Nice job!

Leather Upholstery

Just before Christmas, we squeezed in some furniture manufacturing and upholstery for a client of ours and their holiday home in Waikanae.

These are their two sofas on the factory floor, ready for popping on the truck and heading north!

They are both upholstered in 'Monarch' leather by Tasman. Delicious!

Mix and Match Upholstery

We have just completed a really fun upholstery job for a lovely client of ours - which allowed us to indulge our love of mixing up fabrics!

This Don sofa and chairs are covered in a mixture of 'Troy' by James Dunlop, 'Savoy' by Villa Nova, and piping, panels and buttoning in a lovely velvet called 'Entice' by Warwick.

Eleanor's House - Orange Beauties...

I have been getting some of our furniture reupholstered at the moment by our fabulous upholsterer and long time friend of esdesign, Geoff Fiebig.  Unfortunately, a bit like the exterior paint choice this has proved to be quite difficult as I have been faced with too many options.

As the access to our house isn't great we were fortunate to inherit all the existing furniture,  mainly because it was too hard to get out of the house!! It was all made in 1979, upholstered in Sanderson fabric - the frames and the fabric are excellent quality but the Sanderson really isn't what I had in mind and is starting to wear in areas.  I think it did pretty well for 30 years.

There are 2 of these sofas - they are very large at nearly 2.3m wide but they were also very low.

Having thought long and hard about what to put on them I remembered that I had brought a roll of corduroy velvet back from the Denholm Velvet Factory in England and had popped it in storage.  Perfect.  We decided to remove the skirt around the bottom and put legs on them to make them stand a little taller....et voila!

Another hot topic at esdesign at the moment is sofas - we have a range of companies (all manufacturing in NZ) that we work closely with to custom make the perfect sofas for your needs. So today, let's combine two of our favourite things... sofas, and those hot shades of olive, lime and chartreuse that we seem to have on the brain lately!

New Retro Sofa

We have a newly upholstered retro sofa on our shop floor and we are truly excited!
It is covered in a gorgeous grey velvet and this awesome orange and grey houndstooth pattern on the cushions. He's still waiting on his little cap feet, and then he's good to go!
