A Ship Load of Sheep

We've had an influx of ceramic sheep this morning, all about to jump on the courier over to Wharekauhau Lodge in the Wairarapa. They are sold off in wee flocks to various international guests - so neat to think of them now scattered around the globe after precarious travels home in their owners suitcases!

All made with love by a kiwi ceramicist in Putaruru!

A Royal Connection

Well the whirlwind royal tour is over - buy into it or not - it certainly creates a bit of a buzz in the city which is nice!

We had a little buzz of our own; over the last few years we have been working closely with the fantastic team out at the beautiful Wharekauhau Lodge, on the Wairarapa coast, which most recently has included work on some new soft furnishings. We were delighted to know that our work was appreciated by the royal couple during their first‘secret’ weekend in Wellington during their stay at the Lodge.

The weather was atrocious, but I’m sure they would have still enjoyed their time on the wild southern Wairarapa coast – it’s beautiful out there, rain or shine!

Well done Team – another great job.

Wharekauhau Ottomans

We've just had two more ottomans made for Wharekauhau, aren't they gorgeous? The fabric is called 'Rosa Alba' by Nina Campbell, and they're topped off with lovely cabriole legs.

It's In the Detail

Here are some images of a few of the little touches that were a part of our work at Wharekauhau Lodge.

From upholstery, to lampshades, to cushions and artwork - this job was all about the small details, which meant creating a range of cohesive spaces by incorporating new elements that we'd had sourced and made, with pieces that were already in place at the lodge. This allowed for a fresh, updated look without wiping the slate clean and starting from scratch!

Fabric on lampshade is 'Tutu' by Homebase Collections

Cushion fabric is 'Rata' gold by Homebase Collections

Wharekauhau - Custom Furniture Design

As part of our work at Wharekauhau last year, we commissioned the manufacture of some macrocarpa stools which also double as small side tables in the accommodation cottages.

The design references a traditional milking stool which is in keeping with the coastal farming region surrounding the Wharekauhau estate.
The stool tops had the Wharekauhau branding logo laser-cut into the seats to create pieces which are truly unique to the lodge.

The stools were beautifully created by Sebastian at Splinters and Pixels.

Interior Fit Out - Wharekauhau Lodge, Wairarapa

As promised before Christmas, here are just a couple of gorgeous images of the re-fit of Wharekauhau Lodge which kept us super busy last year!

This included specification of lighting, curtaining, upholstery, finishes, colours, artwork and fittings, as well as full cabinetry and furniture design as you can see in the above image of the new library. A really fantastic job to work on!

For the last 12 months, we have had the fabulous experience of being involved with the interior fit-out of Wharekauhau Lodge & Country Estate on the Southern coast of the Wairarapa. Wharekauhau has now just been listed on the 2012 Gold list of the Conde Nast Traveller, in the category of Ambience & Design. We are pleased as punch to see some of our work rubbing shoulders with some of the best hotels and lodges in the world!

Our work included the design of custom pieces of furniture and inbuilt cabinetry, specification of colours, curtains, fabrics, flooring, homewares, lighting, artwork, wallpaper and the manufacture of a range of soft furnishings, not to mention the co-ordination of all of the above. It has kept us very busy as you can imagine!
