The Hexagon is the New Black

The hexagon is taking over all things interior at the moment; from tiles to paneling, from wallpaper to shelving... there are lots of ways to use this geometric delight in your home or commercial environment.
Like the well-loved rectangular subway tile, it is still a classic shape that can cross traditional and contemporary divides easily, but somehow is just that little bit more fun...!

Stools From Waste - Tsuyoshi Hayashi

Designer Tsuyoshi Hayashi has used discarded roof tiles to create these awesome stools! 65,000 roof tiles are discarded from a nearby factory every year and are simply being sent to land fills. Hayashi uses these pieces to make the stools, discarding the chipped or cracked parts, then fixing them to the wooden frame he designed leaving no nails or glue required. We are so inspired by people with clever ideas for upcycling and recycling waste product, just brilliant!

Trendspotting: Morrocan Tiles

We're excited to see the latest trend in floor and splash back tiling turning from plain, neutral, minimalistic styles to patterned, colourful mosaics with a Spanish or Morrocan flavour.

Looking to European magazines and design sites, we are seeing traditional tiled mosaic floors in older homes which once upon a time would have been ripped up and replaced - now being cleaned, repaired and their intricate designs embraced and worked into more contemporary fit outs, while new mosaic versions are being introduced to fire surrounds, bathroom floors and kitchen splash backs in existing character homes.

Here are some examples of just how these more intricately detailed, patterned tiles can inject some real personality and interest into an interior environment. The way to make it work? Balance the strong visual impact of these tiles with crisp, clean finishes and surfaces in light colours.

Classic White Subway Tiles

Last week we showed you a peek of some tiles we'd been looking to specify for a fun commercial job. We had a number of comments from followers telling us just how much they love them - bricked for a traditional look, or laddered for a more contemporary feel - here's some inspiration for using the classic subway tile in your home.

White Tiles

We've been exploring various tiling options for a really fun commercial job that's ticking along at the moment.
Here are some of our favourites - including hexagonal mosaics, high gloss bricks and creamy beveled edge traditional tiles. There are so many great options, but we have to be careful to not fall in love with them all and try and squeeze them all into the one job!
