A Ship Load of Sheep

We've had an influx of ceramic sheep this morning, all about to jump on the courier over to Wharekauhau Lodge in the Wairarapa. They are sold off in wee flocks to various international guests - so neat to think of them now scattered around the globe after precarious travels home in their owners suitcases!

All made with love by a kiwi ceramicist in Putaruru!

Lenneke Wispelwey Ceramics

Dutch designer Lenneke Wispelwey founded her studio in 2008 in Arnhem.
Her pastel coloured products with mathematic/geometric patterns are the result of a very low-tech way of designing.

Lenneke finds a basic, simple approach to techniques and materials very important to communicate her vision and her way of working. She prefers creating a family of products because as an only child she had always a desire for a bigger family.

Her work is also known for the use of different shades of one colour, and playing with the contrast between biscuit and glazed porcelain. She creates honest and harmonious designs, inspired by her own memories and found pieces from every day life.

She feels her work should make people smile - we agree!

Brett Kern's Ceramic Sculptures

Now these guys are cool!!
Artist Brett Kern creates detailed ceramic objects that at first appear almost indistinguishable from inexpensive inflatable toys. Kern mimics the wrinkles and forms of air-filled toys like dinosaurs, astronauts, balloons, and even whoopie cushions but they are all made from clay.

Surgically Altered Ceramics by Beccy Ridsdel

UK-based artist Becky Ridsdel creates fun yet strangely macabre interventions where ceramics have been surgically altered to reveal additional layers of detail. Where the word surgery might normally evoke blood and guts, Ridsdel instead reveals further floral patterns inside bone china plates and cups.
