Thread Design - Bed Linen

Today we're sharing some great images from one of our favourite kiwi bed linen design companies, Thread Design.

I interviewed these ladies early on in their bed linen venture about ten years ago for a business paper I was completing at design school. They were so unbelievably kind and generous and patient with me and all of my many questions! We've had contact with them again recently through esdesign and they are still as down to earth as ever.

Their bed linens are of a great quality and level of craftsmanship - with a range of colourful, contemporary designs through to more soft, muted palletes for a more classic look. Mix and match to your heart's desire!

Wallpaper Wednesday: 'Cowboys and Indians' by The Make House

The Make House are a Portland, Oregon based design studio specialising in the design and production of small runs of hand printed wallpapers, prints and other lovely goodies.

I came across this gorgeous wallpaper of theirs called 'Cowboys and Indians' - a crisp, simple, grey-scale design printed on metallic gold base paper. This would work in so many interior applications - let your imagination run wild! Available here.

The Traditional Kitchen - Plain English

These days it seems everyone is striving for slick, shiny, contemporary kitchens, so it's so refreshing to come across examples of beautifully designed and crafted kitchens in a more traditional style that work in effortlessly with modern day families.

We recently came across the work of UK company Plain English, and loved trawling through their online portfolio admiring the soft, subtle palettes of colour, carefully considered materials and the intricate detailing and hardware selections that absolutely turn ho hum kitchens into works of art.

Feature Fabric Friday: 'Raupo' by Ingrid Anderson

We've recently specified the latest textile design from kiwi designer Ingrid Anderson - 'Raupo' - for a client of ours. Ingrid is well known for her turquoise greens, burnt oranges and reds, but this design embraces an earthier colour palette with an abstracted design of the NZ 'Raupo' or bullrush plant. 

Laid out flat it's really striking and graphic, but once gathered to use as a curtain it has a real softness and movement to it which is just perfect for a relaxed interior, it's tones blending beautifully into the surrounds. 

A Show Home of Scion

UK company Harpers Interiors have created the most amazing show home using some of our favourite Scion wallpapers and fabrics. Scion is known for very bright, bold primary colours and prints, but used cleverly they can also look unbelievably chic and smart - just check out these pictures!

Wallpaper Wednesday: 'Mushroom Forest' by Nathalie Lete

French born artist Nathalie Lete is a jill of all trades - the designs and illustrations for her paintings, ceramics, textile designs, jewellery, books and toys are built on a foundation of fantasy, humor and childhood memories.

I particularly love this divine whimsical wallpaper of hers called 'Mushroom Forest'. Can you just imagine this lining the walls of a childs' bedroom, or even a bathroom perhaps?!

The wallpaper, and many of her other artistic mediums are all available online.

Bed Linen for the Kids - Love from Friday

If you're like me and struggle with the lack of options for kids' bed linen that don't involve a Disney cartoon character or cheesy animal print etc, then check out the sweet ranges available through Wellington based company Love from Friday, all designed and made by clever creator, Jane.

With gorgeous co-ordinating dittys and prints for girls, boys or both - you are bound to find a classic duvet or cot set here that can fit into your kiddies' bedroom schemes, no trouble. Thank goodness!

Teak Dining Chair Upholstery

The end of last week saw us beavering away in the workoom to upholster this divine set of teak dining chairs for a client of ours. They came to us with some pretty questionable upholstery work, of which we found egg carton foam underneath - no wonder they were lumpy, bumpy and not too comfy! We sorted that all out and re-upholstered them in one of our favourite go-to vinyls, 'Vintage' by Warwick in a phantom colourway. Delicious!

Feature Fabric Friday: 'Life' Collection by James Dunlop

The lovely new 'Life' collection is 'full of painterly florals, vivid birds and intense stripes'. It's a bit of a follow-up range to the hugely popular 'Art and Soul' collection from last year, so we're all for seeing more of the same! All of the designs are printed on a linen/cotton basecloth are also available as wallpapers, as well as a velvet or two. Interested in seeing some sampling? Speak to us today!

Roll It Up

I think we've all seen those kitchens with the roller doors that slide up and down to the surface of the bench top, hiding away the toaster or the breakfast things, sometimes nicely done, sometimes a little clunky - some of you may have these in your kitchen!

But check out this same product being used in a more creative way - what a great idea for adding a pop of colour and being totally practical at the same time; rolling from ceiling to floor to hide all the kids toys and board games in the living area - that's thinking outside of the box, and we like that!

Coastal Inspiration

A couple of weekends ago, Katie headed out on a walk to the lighthouses at Pencarrow on a typically wild and woolly Wellington day and basically got blown all the way out there, only to have to struggle back again in that chilling wind. Not so fun!

Here's a piccie she took while out there - you can almost feel that wind whipping off the harbor!

The outdoors can easily inspire an interior, and here's a wee cottage retreat that feels as though it had similar design inspiration behind it to the coastal feel in Katie's image; layers of texture, mixtures of crisp colours with weathered, worn undertones, nothing too fussy, nothing unnecessary... makes you want to just curl up somewhere cosy with a book and a cuppa!

Turkish Delights - Patchwork & Overdyed rugs

One of our NZ suppliers has recently brought in a wide range of ever popular patchwork and over-dyed Turkish rugs. They're available in a great range of colours, and all of a really substantial size of approximately 2m x 3m which can be so hard to come across (we find that people always totally underestimate the size of the rug they need!).
